Device Migration — Moving Pera to a New Phone

Updated October 28, 2026

Before You Switch

Getting a new phone doesn’t mean your crypto moves with it automatically. Pera Wallet is self-custodial — your accounts live on the blockchain, not on a server that syncs between devices. You need to actively restore or transfer them.

The single most important thing: You need your recovery passphrase. If you don’t have it backed up, do that now — before you wipe or trade in your old phone. See Backing up your Recovery Passphrase.

Option 1: Restore from Cloud Backup

If you turned on Cloud Backup on your old phone, you can bring your whole wallet across at once.

  1. Open Pera Wallet on your new phone and tap Import an account, then Import from Cloud Backup
  2. Either scan the QR code from your old phone (Settings > Cloud Backup > Sync with other devices), or enter your 12-word Passphrase and Encryption Key if the old phone is gone

See Cloud Backups: Sync Another Device or Restore It on a New Phone for the full steps. Cloud Backup is a convenience on top of self-custody, so keep your recovery passphrase safe as well.

Option 2: Restore with Recovery Passphrase

This works even if your old phone is already gone.

On your new phone:

  1. Download Pera Wallet from the App Store or Google Play
  2. Open the app and select I already have an account
  3. Choose Recover with passphrase
  4. Enter your 24-word (Universal Wallet) or 25-word (Legacy Algo25) recovery passphrase
  5. Your account and all its assets will appear — they were on the blockchain the whole time

Repeat for each account if you have multiple accounts with separate passphrases. Quantum accounts have their own 25-word passphrase, which is not an Algo25 phrase.

Universal Wallet advantage: If you set up a Universal Wallet, one 24-word seed phrase recovers all accounts under that wallet. No need to enter multiple passphrases.

Option 3: Import via QR Code

Pera can recover an account from a QR code:

  1. Open Pera Wallet and tap Import an account
  2. Choose Recover an account with QR code
  3. Scan the QR code

To move a whole Cloud Backup with a QR code, use Option 1 instead. Always have your recovery passphrase as a backup regardless.

What About the Pera Web Extension?

The Pera Web Wallet has been discontinued. If you use the Pera Web Extension, it doesn’t change when you switch phones. To use the same accounts there, add your Cloud Backup to the extension or import them with your recovery passphrase.

What Transfers With You (and What Doesn’t)

Transfers Doesn’t transfer
All account balances (on the blockchain) Pera PIN / biometric settings
All opted-in assets Account nicknames, unless you use Cloud Backup
Full transaction history (on the blockchain) App preferences, unless you use Cloud Backup
Watch accounts, unless you use Cloud Backup

Your on-chain data (balances, assets, history) is permanent and accessible from any device with the right passphrase. Your PIN and biometric settings are device-specific and need to be set up fresh. Cloud Backup also restores watch accounts, Ledger addresses, shared accounts, contacts, preferences and some passkeys.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Don’t wipe your old phone before verifying recovery. Set up Pera on the new phone first. Confirm all accounts are restored and balances match. Only then wipe the old device.

Don’t assume iCloud/Google phone backup covers your wallet. Phone backups don’t include your Pera private keys. Even if you restore your phone from backup, Pera will need your recovery passphrase, or your Pera Cloud Backup credentials, to restore accounts. Pera’s own Cloud Backup is separate from your phone’s backup and is only there if you turned it on.

Don’t skip any accounts. If you have multiple accounts with separate passphrases (Legacy Algo25 wallets and Quantum accounts), each needs to be recovered individually. Check your old phone to make sure you haven’t missed any.

Don’t forget watch accounts. Unless you restore from Cloud Backup, watch accounts need to be re-added manually on the new device since they’re view-only references, not key-based.

Checklist

  • Recovery passphrase(s) backed up and accessible, or Cloud Backup credentials saved
  • New phone has Pera Wallet downloaded
  • All accounts restored on new phone
  • Balances match on both devices
  • Security (PIN, biometrics) set up on new phone
  • Watch accounts re-added, unless restored from Cloud Backup
  • Old phone wiped only after full verification
